2010 GREA Legislative Objectives

Members of GREA and the Local Units Should: 

·        Work to increase support with local representatives to get the active Executive Director of GREA appointed as a permanent and automatic position to the TRS Board of Directors. (Long-range goal)

·        Oppose any changes to the rule that sets the pre-funded TRS COLA for retired educators.

·        Support the creation of a state committee to study Venture Capital investments.

·        Support the Defined Benefits Plan and oppose the Defined Contributions Plan relationship to individual contributions for TRS retirement.

·        Monitor the problems and support the members having problems with their Health Care insurance.

·        Continue to monitor and oppose alternatives within other retirement programs that would not be in the best interests for Georgia retired educators.

·        Continue our support of the repeal of the GPO (Government Pension Offset) /WEP (Windfall Elimination Provision) Programs and encourage further participation through AARP.
