For Weekly/Daily Legislative Updates, visit the GREA website. 2008-2009 GREA Legislative Objectives Members of GREA and the Local Units Should: · Work to get the active Executive Director of GREA appointed as a permanent and automatic position to the TRS board of Directors. · Oppose any changes to the rule that sets the pre-funded TRS COLA for retired educators. · Oppose any form of Venture Capital that would use TRS money. · Support the Defined Benefits Plan and oppose the Defined Contributions Plan in relationship to individual contributions for TRS retirement. · Support Governor Perdue’s plan for State Income Taxes for Retirees 65 and above. Work that the current law granting tax exemptions for seniors age 62-65 remain in force. · Monitor the problems and support the members having problems with their Health Care Insurance. · Support Legislation that helps grandparents provide for their grandchildren. · Continue to monitor alternatives within other retirement programs that would not be in the best interests for Georgia retire educators. · Continue our support of the repeal of the GPO (Government Pension Offset) /WEP (Windfall Elimination Provision) Programs and encourage further participation through AARP.
